I like exotic food, exotic ideas and alternative rock....... I'm up for chatting or hanging out around Manchester-ish (be it clubs, pubs, meals or merely a coffee) and having a damn fine time!!!! About me
- Where I liveI live in Broughton near Salford at the mo'. Its a little drab but at least I'm in walking distance of Manchester City Center. I tend to spend my spare time hanging out in Stockport.
- Where are you originally from?Crewe really early on in my life. I spent the vast majority of my life in Stockport.
- Do you want to stay there?I will move back to South Manchester or Stockport the first opportunity I get. Longer term I'm thinking of moving to the South of France or Canada.
- What is your occupation?I'm a student. I love social theory/sociology which is what I graduated in. I've worked in Social Care for the last ten years so I'm doing an MA in Social Work at the moment. I'd like to try to get into law longer term.
- What have you done so far?As above......... I've spent years as a student and I've spent years working with people with Learning Disabilities. At the moment I'm doing a little work with kids who exhibit challenging behaviours.
- What are your future plans?I'd like to be in a career by 30! I'd like to own my own place! I want to get my French speaking up to full fluency and then start learning German and Spanish. I want to get a law degree after I finish my MA. One day.........I'd like to actually finish Ulysses!!!!!
- Your perfect partnerI'd probably like them to have some experience of alternative sublculture. I'd like them to be caring but with a dark, cynical sense of humour. Intelligence would pretty much be a pre-requisite. A dash of exoticism and eccentricity would not go amiss. I tend to like people who are quite libertarian. I'd like someone who is a dreamer but is pragmatic enough to realise them.......
Stuff I like
- What are you interests/hobbies?Sociology. Philosophy. Modern art/literature/films. Having a quite drink with friends. Seeing new places/things. Eating italian/chinese/indian (or even more exotic!!!) foods. Football........
- MusicI like old school Punk/Hardcore music. I like old school goth/industrial music and eighties alternative stuff. I like a lot of old indie rock, though I can't really stomach anything post britpop. When I'm in the mood I don't mind a quick burst of metal. I can handle dance music only when it has an industrial edge. I love synth pop. As far as Hip Hop goes I don't mind a lot of old school stuff but I don't think theres very much which has impressed me post Wu-Tang Clan. I generally hate chart music.
- Your fav books/authorsHenry Miller, Charles Bukowski, Robert Anton Wilson, Herman Hesse, Kathy Acker, Sylvia Plath, Jack Kerouac, Hunter S Thompson, William Burroughs, Dennis Cooper, Albert Camus, Franz Kafka, Tom Robbins, Brett Easton Ellis............ I read constantly. I like dark stuff. Intellectual stuff. Extreme stuff. Surreal stuff and Mind Blowing stuff
- What sort of movies do you like?My favourite movies are probably Bladerunner, Pi, Watership Down, The Terminator, the Begotten, Akira, Rumblefish, Eraserhead, Braindead and Taxi Driver off the top of my head. I generally favour things that are arty without being art for arts sake, quite dark, often with a touch of a cyberpunk aesthetic, though a commercial quality does not necessarily put me off. I also like stuff that makes me laugh! I could quite happily watch anything with Bill Murray in or Borat a 1000 times!!!!!!!
- Types of people you like?I like people with intelligence, cyncicism and a dark sense of humour. Open minded people too. Also people who aren't fundamentalist in any kind of way. I like a streak of eccentricity. I like people who are quite laid back and people who are maybe just a notch or two more ambitious or firey than me. Libertines generally, especially those with a code of honour........
- What kind of people do you find attractive? People who look grungey or who are gothic. Hip nerds. I tend to like Brown eyes and darker skin tones attractive but thats certainly not exclusive........people I can have far out conversations with.........
- FoodI love food!!!!! I'm veggie. I love indian food. I love Chinese food and Italian food as well. Ethiopean food is amazing if you've ever had that? I like Thai food too!!!!! My all time favourite meal would be Mushroom Rogan Josh.
- DrinksI love coffee and I love small bitter cups of Espresso. Hell I even love Starbucks coffee even if I hate everything they stand for!!!!! I do like beer, but I do try to find exclusive stuff like Fruit Beers or Belgian Ales. I do like a nice pint of Guinness every now and then.
- HolidaysI could quite happily go camping in the Lake District or Scotland or go back backing around Europe (which I've done). I really want to go to India and America. I can't wait to go around France once I'm fluent. Generally, any opportunity to get out of Manchester for a while is a good one!!!!
- PetsI'm a Dog person rather than a cat person. I love Rats!!!!! When I'm settled down somewhere I would really love to get a decent tropical fish set-up set up.
- Fav thingMy great grandads gold watch. I'm not particularily materialistic, though.
- Fav PlaceAmsterdam. I always have a great time when I'm in that part of the world.......
My attitude
- Family lifeIf a trad family works - great! If not, whatever else that works is great too. I'm quite libertarian and cynical about the traditional family unit, that said. I'm not in the biggest hurry to found some traditional family unit.
- Jobs&WorkingI don't want to be totally money orientated. I don't want to be poor either. I'm never sure if I want to care for people on a longer term basis or not as it can be exhausting as well as exhilarating. I would like to have some responsibility at some point but not at the expense of my happiness or that of those around me. I'd like to get into law one day. I don't think I'd ever want to do the same thing for too long.
- MoneyMoney is useful but its hardly the meaning of life itself. Money facilitates aspects social interaction but hardly compensates for the lack of it - so I'd go for friends over money everytime.
- PoliticsCan't stand political partys. Can't stand control freaks. Can't stand demogogues. The war in Iraq is immoral. If what I do hurts no-one else then what I do is no-one elses buisness. I'm pretty much a libertarian. I'm very against ID cards and unnecessary laws/taxes especially those that limit peoples personal freedom.
